Introducing The SunWize TRF Series Traffic Enclosures

A durable and secure solution for traffic, ITS, and field-deployed power systems

Traffic and transportation teams depend on equipment that performs reliably in every environment. Because these systems face constant exposure, dependable protection really matters. Consequently, the enclosure acts as the first line of defense against weather, vandalism, and physical wear. Therefore, SunWize developed the TRF Series enclosures to address these demands directly. They deliver durability, security, and mounting flexibility for transportation agencies and DOT field crews.

The TRF8-31, TRF4-31, and TRF2-31 models follow a unified design philosophy that prioritizes long service life and dependable performance. Each enclosure uses 0.125-inch aluminum and meets NEMA 3R standards. This reassures technicians that systems remain protected during extreme heat, storms, or seasonal shifts. In addition, a stainless steel piano hinge and stainless hardware reinforce the structure. Also, a three-point latch system secures the door. The latch accepts a padlock and uses a standard number 2 key. This design lets authorized personnel access the system while deterring tampering.

Capability Statement

Designed for demanding traffic applications

  • The TRF Series supports many deployment types, ranging from simple load control to larger multi-battery systems. For example, the TRF8-31 holds eight Group 31 batteries, while the TRF4-31 and TRF2-31 hold four and two respectively, according to the data sheet. As a result, transportation teams can size systems appropriately for cabinet-free sites. This flexibility also helps crews design reliable power solutions for remote stand-alone locations.

  • Each enclosure includes four 10–32 mounting studs for Power Ready Express control panels. In addition, the interior also accepts custom panels built on either a 15 × 6.5 inch or 15 × 17 inch backplate. This arrangement makes replacements and new installations much easier. Moreover, it simplifies integration with solar and battery systems in off-grid applications.

  • Beyond that, additional design features enhance field versatility. The enclosure includes several half-inch knockouts on both the side and bottom. Furthermore, it includes a removable internal shelf and a powder-coated aluminum finish, which reduces corrosion over long service intervals. With the optional pole-mount kit, crews can install the enclosure using band clamps or u-bolts. Thus, teams can adapt quickly to diverse site conditions.

Build to meet DOT requirements

Remote traffic systems require enclosures that can handle daily exposure while protecting mission-critical equipment. For this reason, SunWize designed the TRF Series with DOT operational and regulatory requirements in mind. The durable construction, strong security features, and consistent access points support efficient maintenance. Together, these attributes promote uniform installations and maximize equipment uptime.

Whether used in solar-powered traffic systems, cabinet-free power assemblies, ITS communication nodes, or general field electronics installations, the TRF Series delivers dependable performance. As a result, project teams obtain a well-engineered enclosure that supports long-term service.

Main Advantages

Here are some advantages of the TRF Series Traffic Enclosures:

  • Durable Construction: Each enclosure uses 0.125-inch aluminum that meets NEMA 3R requirements, providing strong protection from outdoor exposure.
  • Enhanced Physical Security: A stainless steel three-point latch system and stainless piano hinge lock the door securely. The latch accommodates a padlock and uses a standard #2 key.
  • Flexible Battery Capacity: The series supports two, four, or eight Group 31 batteries depending on the model. This flexibility helps DOT and ITS teams size each system properly.
  • Integrated Control Panel Mounting: Each enclosure includes four 10–32 studs for Power Ready Express panels. The interior also accepts custom panels on standard backplates.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Finish: All aluminum components feature a powder-coated finish. This finish extends service life and reduces corrosion in harsh environments.
  • Versatile Field Mounting Options: Optional pole-mount kits accept band clamps or u-bolts, allowing installation in a wide range of roadside or remote locations.
  • Service-Friendly Design: A removable internal shelf, multiple half-inch knockouts, and a consistent internal layout simplify wiring, equipment layout, and ongoing maintenance.
