The SunWize PowerPort is designed for grid-interactive photovoltaic
(PV) applications ranging in rated power output from 30kW to 300kW AC
in modular segments. The 30kW system shown above and below was
engineered and installed for the TVA in Florence Alabama.

Features and benefits

The SunWize PowerPort easily fits into any existing space because of
its design flexibility. The PV array is located on the roof deck of a
canopy structure that provides shade for various purposes such as
vehicle parking, park visitors, and sports spectators. The low tilt
angle of the deck and array reduces wind loading and maximizes power
output to coincide with peak electrical load periods. The system’s
simplicity minimizes engineering costs and on site construction time.
The system transforms direct current power produced by the solar
modules into 480 VAC, 60 Hz, 3-phase utility-compatible power that is
fed into the utility. In this grid-interactive configuration, the PV
system operates in parallel with the utility power plants to provide
power to the grid during daylight hours.
Automatic Operation
The inverter operation is completely automatic. It ‘wakes up’ and
begins to deliver power as the sun rises and ‘sleeps’ as the sun sets.
The inverter monitors and matches utility voltage, frequency and phase
angles. In the event of a utility loss of phase or complete power
outage, the inverter shuts down to ensure the safety of utility line
workers. Upon restoration of utility grid power, the inverter resumes
operation. System capabilities include fault detection and diagnostics
with no operator intervention.
